General Purpose of Job

The purpose of this position is to direct and coordinate the shipping and receiving activities of the Ferndale facility. This consists of supervising all shipping and receiving personnel in an efficient and safe manner to meet all internal and external customer requirements and to ensure that all material is shipped or received on time at the least cost for the required level of service.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

•Directs the scheduling of shipments of all finished product, by-products and miscellaneous material and if necessary notifies concerned parties of the arrival dates.

•Oversees and coordinates the receipt of all items or materials entering the facility.

•Working with operations leadership, establishes key performance metrics and targets, and manages the department to meet or exceed the targeted performance.

•Proficiently uses SAP (or other ERP system) to manage shipping/receiving functions, and understands MRP and inventory control practices.

•Initiates investigations into causes of damages/shortages in consignments or overcharges for freight or insurance purposes.

•Assists the Logistics Manager in determining the most efficient and economical routing and mode of transportation with the various carrier contracts.

•Coordinates the preparation of shipments for export as required

•Initiates changes designed to improve the control and efficiency of the shipping and receiving department.

•Assists in preparing department budget.

•Provides standards and goals for safety, health and housekeeping. Monitors performance.

•Directs the efficient organization and assignment of manpower. Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet shipping schedules.

•Recommends measures to improve shipping methods and equipment performance.

•Suggests changes in working conditions to increase efficiency of department and work force.

•Confers with other managers/supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments

•Holds regular departmental meetings to facilitate a high level of involvement.

•Maintains and reports all data related to Shipping and Receiving for Accounting and Quality.



•Requires an Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school.

•Must have three to five years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

•Strong problem solving skills and communication skills.

•Experience using ERP’s such as SAP.
